Speculation

Everything points to James Van Riemsdyk coming to the leafs for Luke Schenn and maybe more. JVR brings a lot to the table, dealing from a defence which is a position of strength for the Leafs seems reasonable too. Although it seems like a good fit, JVR plays wing. The Leafs are deep on the wings and the ideal trade would be to bring in a center. Although this could work...

With all that said, a trade sending Luke Schenn, Clarke Macarthur to Philly for JVR and a 2nd could work out. This would free up a spot on the wing for Van Riemsdyk. Trading for a winger will put pressure on Nazem Kadri or Joe Colborne to turn into a solid pro by the end of the 2012/2013 season where Tim Connolly's contract will expire. Resigning Grabovski seems like a must, Grabbo has what it takes to be a top six forward for many years to come. Aulie is proving his value to this team is close to Schenn's value.

Schenn will be greatly missed and its always nice seeing a player you draft turn into a cornerstone on the team. Schenn could become a great d-man with his offensive game rounding out.

A line-up consisting of;

Lupul-Connolly-Kessel
JVR-Grabovski-Kulemin
Kadri-Bozak/lombo-Armstrong/Crabb
Brown-Steckel-Boyce

Phaneuf-Aulie
Gunnarson-Franson
JML/Gardiner-Komisarek

Gustav
Reimer

This line-up has great depth an lots of scoring to help carry this team to the play-offs and maybe even win a round or two.

Let's see how serious the concussion is that JVR suffered is first.
