First off I want to start by stating that I believe Ron Wilson will stick around for the rest of the season. May not be shocking but I also believe that once the season is over, Rotten Ron will get the can and Burke will not announce the new coach right away.

He will watch Dallas Eakins closely on his journey to the Calder Cup. This is Burke's final test for Dallas. If the marlies win a couple rounds and show a strong structured system with efficient special teams, I believe Burke gives him the job. If the marlies lose focus then Burke looks to his old mate Randy Carlyle to bring a stern finished product to the ACC night in and night out. Saying all this I would love for one of these two men to come in to replace Wilson because this team looks like they have given up on him. With all the talk around firing the coach and Burke not providing security to his Providence buddies job makes it clear to me that something is about to change.

With Ron coaching the remainder of the season I believe the Leafs have zero chance of finishing the season strong. A good draft pick seems to be on the horizon and potentially sitting with a top pick(Watching the habs crumble is bonus with Minnesota passing the Leafs at the same time and a potential Buffalo win in San Jose). A 6'2" american BORN center will be waiting to be selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs and his name is Alex Galchenyuk. This kid is a budding star and has slipped this year because he had season ending surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. He has a finished two-way game compared to Marian Hossa. Also displaying tremendous reach certainly similar to Evgeni Malkin along with high end playmaking vision along with hands to go with his fluid stride. Seeing him as the pivot on the Leafs top line is going to make this team a contender. He may be the last piece to this puzzle that Burke is putting together.

And yes I believe the Leafs would benefit much more by falling rather than making a push for 9th place.
